Polly wanted to break up with Steve and wanted to let him down[1] gently. She told him that he was a great guy, but their time was over. He should let go[2] and move on with his life. But Steve couldn’t.

　　Every day he showed up at her front door with flowers. Polly told her mom not to let Steve in[3], but Steve would not let up[4]. He sent chocolates and teddy bears to her office. He even let off[5] fireworks in the street to show his love!

　　After a month, Polly came up with[6] a plan that would definitely put Steve off. She told Steve that she would let him in on[7] a little secret of hers. When Steve heard Polly’s secret, he was　shocked. He told Polly that it was something he couldn’t possibly let slide[8]. After all, she was married and had two kids! Polly was never bothered by Steve again.
